Understanding Your Neuropathy

Neuropathy can have different causes, which is why understanding your individual situation matters. Dr. Sanchez primarily works with neuropathy affecting the feet.

In some people, symptoms may be related to the nerves originating in the lumbar or sacral area of the spine. In others, the issue may be more localized within the foot. Neuropathy can also be associated with conditions such as diabetes.

Rather than assuming every case is the same, we assess your symptoms and determine which areas should be addressed.

A Multi-Faceted Approach

Neuropathy care at the practice may bring several different therapies together, depending on your needs.

One is Class IV laser therapy, which is directed toward areas where neuropathy symptoms are present. In some cases, we may also follow the path of the affected nerve and address the lower back.

We may also use a foot vibration device while guiding you through specific ankle movements. The vibration is intended to stimulate proprioceptive input—the signals that help your brain understand where your body is in space—while encouraging circulation in the area.

Gentle Activator adjustments may be performed on the metatarsals of the feet to address their movement and function. Topical or nutritional approaches may be incorporated as appropriate.

Monitoring Changes in Sensation

An important part of neuropathy care is determining how your body responds. A neurologic assessment is performed to analyze patterns of sensation loss or improvement, as well as muscle strength and symmetry. .

Because neuropathy varies considerably from person to person, there is no single timetable that applies to everyone. How long you have experienced symptoms and their underlying cause can influence the care Dr. Sanchez recommends and how your body responds.

Don’t Ignore Changes in Your Feet

If you’ve noticed persistent numbness, tingling, altered sensation, or other changes in your feet, having the problem evaluated can help you better understand what may be contributing to it.
