Meet Dr. Alex Zylstra

Dr. Alex with family

Discovering His Calling

Growing up, Dr. Alex witnessed his father go through a failed back surgery that left him with chronic pain and diminished function. Dr. Alex always wanted to help, and he even considered becoming a medical doctor.

Before Dr. Alex made a career decision, he was involved in a head-on car collision at 45 mph. After the vehicles were towed away, he called a friend for a ride home. That friend happened to be going to chiropractic school, and instead of taking Dr. Alex home, he drove him straight to a chiropractor.

That was Dr. Alex’s first experience with chiropractic and the results changed his life. With encouragement from that chiropractor, Dr. Alex decided to pursue chiropractic as a career.

Education and Experience

Once he made up his mind, Dr. Alex was on a mission to become a great chiropractor as soon as possible. He took accelerated classes to complete his bachelor’s degree early and then went on to University of Western States Health and Sciences in Portland, Oregon, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2003.

Discovering corrective chiropractic care was another eye-opening experience, and Dr. Alex knew this would be his focus. He went on to take extensive postgraduate training in the Pettibon System, which uses pre and post X-rays to ensure structural corrections to the spine have been made.

After graduating, Dr. Alex began practicing with another chiropractor, and then opened our Millennium Chiropractic Lakewood location in 2005. His wife Kay has been our office manager all along, and she shares Dr. Alex’s passion for educating patients about the essentials of overall wellness, including chiropractic care, quality nutrition, exercise and minimizing toxic exposure.

Away from the Office

When he’s not at work, Dr. Alex loves spending time with Kay and their two daughters—they sit down and have dinner together as a family as often as possible. He’s also passionate about his church and outdoor activities like hunting and hiking.
